Getting Started

Q: How do I record my first note?

Tap the microphone button on the main screen. Speak naturally — Animo transcribes as you go. When you stop, your note is saved automatically.

Q: Why isn’t AI cleanup working on my notes?

Animo’s AI cleanup runs on-device and requires a one-time model download. Open Settings → AI Cleanup and tap Download Model. The Qwen model is ~1.7 GB; the WhisperKit transcription model is ~40 MB. Make sure you’re on Wi-Fi for the initial download.

Q: Do I need an internet connection to use Animo?

No. After the first model download, everything — transcription, AI cleanup, and note storage — runs entirely on your device. Nothing leaves your phone or Mac.

Transcription & AI

Q: My transcription is inaccurate. What can I do?

Speak at a normal pace and avoid covering the microphone. In Settings → Recording Engine, you can switch between WhisperKit (on-device, higher accuracy) and Apple’s native speech recognition.

Q: The AI cleanup changed something it shouldn’t have.

Edit the note directly — Animo learns from your corrections and applies them to future notes automatically.

Q: The AI cleanup takes a long time.

On-device inference depends on your device’s chip. The local Qwen model is fastest on A17 Pro and M-series chips. If you need faster results, switch to Apple Intelligence in Settings (requires iOS 18.1+ with Apple Intelligence enabled).

iCloud Sync

Q: My notes aren’t appearing on my other devices.

Make sure iCloud sync is enabled in Animo → Settings → iCloud Sync. Also confirm iCloud Drive is enabled for Animo in iPhone Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive. Changes may take a few minutes to propagate.

Q: I see duplicate notes after enabling iCloud.

This can happen on first sync. Delete the duplicates manually — iCloud will sync the deletion to your other devices.

Widgets

Q: How do I add the Quick Record widget?

Long-press your Home Screen → tap + → search Animo → add the Quick Record widget. Tapping it opens the capture screen and starts recording immediately.

Q: The Recent Thoughts widget isn’t showing my notes.

Widgets refresh periodically. If notes are missing, open Animo once — this syncs the widget data store. On iOS 18, you can also long-press the widget and tap Edit Widget to force a refresh.

Privacy

Animo processes your voice entirely on your device. Your recordings and notes are never sent to Animo’s servers. iCloud sync (when enabled) routes data through your personal iCloud account — Animo has no access to it.
