Overview

Animo is a voice-first notes app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It turns your spoken words into clean written notes using on-device speech recognition and on-device AI — no accounts, no cloud servers, no data leaving your device unless you choose to sync with your own iCloud.

What Animo Accesses

Microphone

Animo records audio when you tap the record button. Audio is captured locally and used immediately to produce a transcript. Recordings are saved to your device, or to iCloud if you enable sync. Animo does not stream your microphone to any server.

Speech Recognition

Animo transcribes audio using WhisperKit, an on-device speech model that runs entirely on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Apple Speech Recognition is available as an alternative engine; when server-mode recognition is active, Apple may process audio on its servers according to Apple’s Privacy Policy.

AI Cleanup

After transcription, Animo can rewrite your note into cleaner prose using on-device Qwen 3.5 via LLM.swift, or Apple Intelligence when available. No external AI API is used, no API key is required, and your voice and text are not sent to third-party AI services.

What Animo Stores

Your notes — including audio files, transcripts, AI rewrites, and edits — are stored in Animo’s private app container on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, your notes sync to your personal iCloud account using Apple’s document storage. Animo never has access to your iCloud credentials or synced data.

Widget Data and Correction Hints

Home screen and lock screen widgets may store a small snapshot of recent notes in a shared app group container on your device. When you edit a cleaned note, Animo may remember word corrections to improve future AI cleanup locally. This data never leaves your device.

What Animo Does NOT Do

Animo has no user accounts, no third-party analytics or crash reporting SDKs, no advertising, no remote AI servers, and no data sales. We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to anyone.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your notes, audio files, and correction data exist only on your device and in your iCloud account. You can delete individual notes from the Library screen at any time. To remove all local Animo data, delete the app. To remove synced iCloud data, delete it from iCloud Drive.

Third-Party Frameworks

Animo uses WhisperKit for on-device speech recognition and LLM.swift for on-device AI text cleanup. Both frameworks operate entirely on-device and neither transmits data to any server.

Children’s Privacy

Animo does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app has no server-side data collection of any kind, so no personal information is transmitted by the app itself.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and post the revised version at the same URL. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
